Self-Portrait with Cropped Hair
Frida Kahlo

Painted just after divorcing her husband. He always loved her long dark hair. You can see the hair scattered on the floor in the painting along with Kahlo’s short new hair style, Scissors still in her hand. This painting rejects the traditional feminine image and makes me feel very empowered.
Drowning Girl
Roy Lichtenstein

Drowning Girl is made up of thousands of dots, all done by hand. This is a well known piece from the Pop Art Movement. The limited cool colour palette is easy on the eye. Whilst the words say otherwise I still get romantic feelings from the painting.
Unique Forms of Continuity in Space Umberto Boccioni

Unique Forms of Continuity in Space is sculpture of a human like figure in motion.
The piece radiates movement and freedom.
I loved how it appeared to be moving even when it wasn’t, as you walk around the sculpture you see every angle and perfectly thought out body ridge.
These three art pieces were the fundamental inspiration points for this shoot, I wanted to focus on empowerment whether that came from the figure of the body or the design elements of line and hierarchy. These three pieces worked together to help my design process and create a concept and a final shoot that oozed empowerment.
